East County Spartans

From a competitive standpoint, what is the difference between in-house league, PONY and Little League, and Travel baseball?

Traditionally Travel baseball is a big step up in competition. It is like league All Stars playing against other All Stars. Recreational and fun versus competitive and fun.

What makes East County Spartans different?

Our first difference is that we are not a full-time commitment both in money and time. We understand that supplying your player with a diverse and well-rounded childhood can be challenging at times. We want our players to seek challenges through other sports or activities and have the peace of mind to do so. Without risking their play time or status on a competitive team. We even encourage participation with in-house leagues, so your child can still have fun playing ball with their neighbors and classmates.

Does the Manager/Coach allow a player to miss practice due to home work, school functions, family outings, or commitments to other sports?
School and Family come first. EC Spartans schedule is designed to allow our players to be well-rounded student athletes. That is why we choose to only compete during the summer and fall seasons. Our highest expectation of our families and players is during the summer session as we have set our goal on the Youth Baseball Nationals Tournament in Reno, NV.

Is the travel distance limited and are tournaments local? How far away are tournaments?

This is one area where EC Spartan differs from other teams. It is not our desire to play at every tournament at every venue. We will select events that are usually no more than an hour drive. Manteca, Tracy, Walnut Creek and Ripon are the most visited venues.

Are we going to have to give up entire weekends?
We plan to play in two tournaments a month. Yes, when we compete in a tournament it will be both Saturday and Sunday.

What is the role of the parent on a travel team?

We hope that all Spartan parents are supportive of their team and the process of developing a competitive baseball or softball player that loves the game. All parents are also invited to fill any open EC Spartans Board positions available.

What comes with the full uniform?

The full Spartans uniform consists of the following:

  • Gray full button jersey with two-color tackle and twill numbers and lettering. Includes team name and number on front, player name and number on back
  • Spartan green pullover Jersey with screening for numbers and lettering. Includes team name and number on front, player name and number on back
  • Spartan white pullover Jersey with sublimation for numbers and lettering. Includes team name and number on front, player name and number on back
  • Spartans flex-fit hat
  • 17-oz reinforced gray pants with green piping
  • Green belt & socks
  • Spartans practice tee
  • Rolling bat bag
Does the team fee have to be paid upfront, or can it be paid in installments?

The full amount is not needed up front. EC Spartans would need $350 to start and arrangements can be made to complete the enrollment.

Is there any Fundraising?
We strongly encourage fundraising events. Currently the EC Spartan Board has an opening for the Director of Fundraising and Sponsorship. We believe that fundraising would drastically reduce the cost to our families. Money collected through fundraising would only increase our fun and experiences. Money earned during fundraising will be applied to players after all expenses are covered.

If my child is offered a roster spot, when do I need to pay?

When your child participates in a EC Spartan tryout and is offered a roster spot you will have 3 days to accept the roster spot and pay initial fees.

What is the difference between an Invitee and a Legacy Player?
EC Spartans Coaches and Staff have had the pleasure of coaching locally for the past 5 years. With that experience we have come to know the skill level of players in our area. These identified players would receive an “Invite” to be apart of the EC Spartans. A Legacy player is a child of an EC Spartans Staff or Volunteer. These two types of recruits are only bypassing the tryout. All players pay the same fees and have to compete for playing time and positions. This is commonly done with travel ball teams, EC Spartans just wants to be transparent on our recruiting policies. We will keep these types of recruits to a minimum to allow plenty of roster space for players participating in tryouts.
